There are set norms that govern our surroundings. Things are expected to work in an established way. Societal structure expects it to be so. We call it compliance. When interacting with someone or doing something individually or in a group setting, we are expected to comply with such expected behavioral patterns. The way to do that is by demonstrating actions consistent with such practices.
There are many ways we are told to illustrate our behavior. For example - Be humble, greet when you meet someone, help strangers, and act for the betterment of those socially deprived, be truthful. While these are generally good traits to demonstrate, they are often clouded by the environment and experiences we encounter. Our core thoughts typically create experiences that make us proud of our actions. But when mixed with world affairs, it may cloud our judgment. This is precisely where we break the norm expected by the surrounding environment.
If we feel confused, act confused. If we are angry and want to momentarily react, do so. If we are dejected about not working in self-interest, we feel bothered. Nothing needs to be done because norms say otherwise. Norms are simply expectations of others. They weigh us down.
The unusual approaches tell us to face reality. Do things the way we can. The path may look scattered. Our decisions might look random and disjointed. But the connections we will form from making those decisions will provide solid links you never would have on a straight-line path. The surprise we get in unchartered territory is fulfilling.
Most interesting things are discovered when we make unique choices; with unusual approaches to everyday situations!
