A situational retorting reaction is a sign of alertness. We can rest assured that we have done or said something that caught others' attention. So much so that someone stepped forward with a quick response, often even unexpected to us.
We must consider that is a good sign. We often self-doubt our actions and wonder whether it catches anyone's eye. But getting someone to react is a sign of getting attention and feedback.
Rejoinders are a sign that we have an audience. Better still, we must know that the audience cares about us enough to let us know how they feel.
And yet, sometimes, take rejoinder with a pinch of salt.
