Get involved

Individual contribution (contribution as an individual) is the single most important habit we should not lose touch with. Our career and home progress heavily depends on that. Delegation while useful should retain the individual's work habits at all costs. Or, you are not walking the talk and then over time you are ineffective in showing others the path of their progress and then eventually you become short on confidence and become out of place. Each set of 20 years of our life has different individual contribution and we must retain it and replenish it with distinct things we will enjoy as our own work that does not require participation from others. When there is an expectation of others to do thing that we are required to do then often there is room for us erring on the side of delegating dis-proportionately not losing the fun of doing it ourselves. Art, Music, Encounters with Nature, Travel, Reading are so uniquely individual preferences that replenish you en...

Conflict of Interest

It's extremely important aspect of attaining transparent work/engagement ethics. I wish there was one in public service the way we have in the Company act. http://www.ilfsindia.com/pdf/code_conduct.pdf . Public service does not get scruitiny that seniors in Companies may get on the aspect of Conflict of interest. It's about time there was one...

Can a bag of water keep Housefly away?

I have seen it, and it does work. Why? Here's one theory... there may be others...  An important point is it works like magic! What a boon in recurring monsoon problem? Refraction takes place when a clear or opaque object, such as a piece of glass or a bag of water, alters the course and velocity of light. The rays of light, which normally travel in a straight line, bend. This effect is responsible for a number of optical illusions. In theory, refraction can be just as confusing for some species of  insect , especially the  housefly . It boasts a highly sensitive array of eyes which allow it to see in multiple directions at once.  The insect's head mostly consists of a pair of large  complex eyes , each of which is composed of 3,000 to 6,000  simple eyes . These eyes can't move or focus on objects like human eyes, but they provide the fly with a mosaic view of the world around them. Each simple eye provides one small piece of the puzzle, much l...

Role of Society and the Government

Where each adult Citizen has a position at home and a position at work that allows him to express, be creative, make decisions and create impact. In the absence of that, it is not surprising that one Citizen fights another... mostly for holding an answerable position - place of assertion for himself or herself. Role of society is to make such a role (position) possible starting at home. Role of government is make such a role (position) at work possible by becoming enabler to continuous job creation and that of making societies safe and livable. If are missing one or both, discontent among citizens is bound to rise...

Road to good governance

Good governance starts at home. Picks up at society or area of residence. Have you ever thought about whether governance is about "WHOM?" Self or others? By definition, you only govern and mold "your conduct" as it applies "towards others" around you. Conduct typically emanates from guidelines and beliefs. Some are written and some are learned by experience (which may very well be good or bad). Your conduct is demonstrable in day-to-day exchanges about various immediate needs. Conduct permits the needs to be served or left pending.  Pending work is either doable or not doable. It can never be in a "do not know what to do about it" for too long.  The more you keep things pending the more person who has needs will return for satisfying those needs. As an end result, you remain occupied with the same work for more time than what it's worth.   The more your conduct is mold-able the more you find others' needs from you get served or ...

Plight of Those Who We Expect to Serve Citizens

The problem is basic. We receive public services. But they are excruciatingly poor, ineffective, incomplete and worse unaccountable. Everywhere really... It is mostly due to  lack of : "Will" to review the quality of processes used in offering services and acting on improving those in an organized manner. Finding easy and decentralized way to execute those processes. Making sure there are decentralized ways of funding execution of those services. Providing powers to locally resolve issues arise out of services offered. Public postings of what services are provided in through physical offices vs. online via internet. Posting the rights of citizens in office premise so service providers know how to serve better by remaining answerable .   In the absence of above you will find that the public services cannot be delivered anymore because organization providing services itself is not clear about their own role. With growing boundaries of Cities and towns, distrib...

A step towards good governance

Focus on formal degree college in Police Science and Internal Security . Training focuses on proactive crisis management planning as against reactive knee-jerk crisis handling. Perhaps a role model and much-needed change to ensuring security forces have disciplined training.

Will good changes ever take place?

Most often the change agents are in action and the change is in the offing. The bits and pieces of information that are around and difficulty in assimilation of that information to build a cohesive picture in our mind is the main reason the change is not apparent. But it sure is in the making - slowly but steadily. Change is a function of influence and manner in which it gets created. Conviction of thoughts, relentless efforts, persuasiveness and ability to listen to alter the course (where it's necessary) are the prime contributors driving the change. I have realized the quality of judgement is such a personal phenomenon. Judging people, events, situations are so subjective. I have also wondered how all great change agents have consistently possessed this uncanny ability to judge the surroundings where the thought provoking ideas might take root. Over time I have also begun to feel that thought provoking ideas first hit the deaf walls, traverse the unwanted paths and only th...

It's Difficult To Be Honest

It's hard to take decisions because they are deemed to be yours once you take them. You need to own them up.  Decisions taken by you may impact you and others around you. So you need to stand behind them and face the consequence because you will be part of the ecosystem that is impacted due to the decision made.  Decisions can only be made on two grounds - Self-driven or Inclusive. Decisions can be taken impulsively and driven by factors outside your control.  Best decisions are made when you apply your honest thoughts on the subject that warrants a decision to be made. What the decision is about? What it will impact? What will improve as a result of taking the decision? Importantly best decisions are those that result in an intended positive effect on the ecosystem in which it's taken. The smaller the ecosystem impacted the more decisions are self-driven, the broader the ecosystem impacted the more inclusive decisions are likely to be...

What Is Causing The Problem

1. Being able to "Face" that the trusted ones, the close ones can get criticized and without feeling "Insulted" about the criticism 2. Showing distance (physical or emotional) so much so that it generates misunderstanding about the level of respect or feeling of love for others 3. Being able to accept the different styles of communication to misinterpret it as "bad behavior" from others. 4. Thinking that solutions come by "Waiting" rather than by "discussing". 5. Not understanding that anger is a prominent root cause in situations that may not be in control of those who are involved in the situations. 6. Not knowing how to get help and from whom? 7. Not respecting each others accomplishments. Not showing path to others to encourage by presenting an opportunity to get new accomplishments of their own. 8. Not realizing communication should never "Stop" even when we feel the anger. 9. Not realizing that instant r...
